For the welfare of your animals
This website is for learning from practical veterinary knowledge and experience. If an animal needs urgent help, contact a qualified veterinarian immediately. Do not rely on online content instead of an examination.
1. Educational purpose
Hoof & Herd shares general information about livestock health, feeding, reproduction, farm management, welfare and biosecurity. Our aim is to make practical veterinary knowledge easier to understand and share lessons learned through experience.
Articles, comments, FAQs, images and other material on this site are educational. They are not individualized veterinary advice, a diagnosis, a prescription or a treatment plan for any animal.
2. Veterinary emergencies and professional care
If an animal is seriously ill or injured, has difficulty breathing, is severely bloated, cannot stand, is bleeding heavily, is experiencing a difficult birth or may have been poisoned, contact a qualified local veterinarian or emergency veterinary service immediately.
Do not delay an examination or treatment while reading this website. A veterinarian who can examine the animal and consider its history, species and local circumstances is best placed to make clinical decisions.
3. No veterinarian-client-patient relationship
Using the website, reading an article, sending a message or posting a comment does not create a veterinarian-client-patient relationship with Hoof & Herd or its contributors. We do not diagnose or treat individual animals through the website.
4. Authors, accuracy and review
Contributors share veterinary knowledge and practical learning. An author byline identifies who prepared the material; it does not mean an article has been independently clinically reviewed. Where an independent veterinary review has actually happened, it may be identified separately.
We aim for clear, responsible information and may correct or update articles. Practices, medicines and recommendations differ across animal species, locations and clinical situations, and information can become outdated. Confirm important decisions with a qualified local veterinarian.
5. Animal welfare and responsible use
Readers are expected to act lawfully, humanely and in the animals’ best interests. Information on this site must not be used to justify neglect, unsafe handling, unnecessary suffering, unapproved medication use or avoidance of essential veterinary care.
Always follow applicable local regulations, medication-label requirements, withdrawal periods and the guidance of an appropriately qualified professional.
6. External sources and third-party links
We may link to external references, organizations and services to help readers explore a topic. We do not control their content, availability or privacy practices, and a link does not automatically mean endorsement.
7. Copyright and fair use
Unless otherwise indicated, original Hoof & Herd text, design and branding belong to the site or its contributors. You may share article links and brief attributed excerpts for lawful purposes. Do not republish complete articles, images or branding without appropriate permission.
Third-party images and referenced materials remain subject to the rights and licenses of their respective owners. If you believe content infringes rights, please contact us with the relevant details.
8. Community participation
Please keep comments and messages respectful, relevant and lawful. Do not publish private information, abusive content, misleading medical claims, spam or material that could encourage animal harm. We may moderate or remove inappropriate submissions.
Avoid sharing sensitive personal or farm information publicly. How submitted details may be handled is explained in our Privacy Policy.
9. Availability and limitation of liability
We aim to keep the website useful and accessible but cannot guarantee that all material is error-free, up to date or always available. Reliance on information from the site is at the reader’s discretion, subject to applicable law.
To the extent permitted by law, Hoof & Herd and its contributors are not responsible for losses caused by misuse of general educational content. Nothing here excludes liability that cannot legally be excluded.
10. Updates and contact
These terms may change as the website develops. The effective date below identifies this version. If you have a question, need to report an error or would like to raise a concern, use our Contact page.
